Dr. Baker’s research interests are focused on using mixed methods to improve the control and prevention of sports and recreation injuries among young people, increasing physical activity across the lifespan, treatment and management of hematological conditions, such as sickle cell disease, and evaluating policies related to sickle cell trait in athletics. Her research lab — Injuries in Sport and Physical Activity Data Analysis and Training Advances (I-SPY DATA Lab) — prioritizes bridging the methodological and data gaps in sports injury research by using advanced statistical analysis and large data sets, especially to address disparities in sport and recreation caused by social and structural determinants of health.
