A new, three-year Commonwealth Health Research Board grant has been awarded to principal investigator Alicia Pickrell and co-investigator Michelle Theus to dissect the role of interferon in traumatic brain injury and to investigate the potential to mitigate this interferon pathway as a potential therapy for traumatic brain injury.

Charlotte Baker, assistant professor of epidemiology in the Department of Population Health Sciences, and Tosin Ogunmayowa, PhD student in the Biomedical and Veterinary Sciences PhD program, presented their poster, "Application of multilevel modeling in sports and recreational injuries studies,” at the VCOM Via Research Day. Their presentation reviewed the way researchers have used multilevel modeling to look at sports and recreation-related injury.

Department of Biomedical Sciences and Pathobiology Ph.D. student Leila Abdelhamid received the Nutrients Travel Award in Nutritional Immunology for 2021. Abdelhamid's research in the Luo Lab explores the complex cellular and molecular pathways of how vitamin A modulates the inflammation-associated with systemic autoimmunity.
