Charlotte Baker, assistant professor of epidemiology in the Department of Population Health Sciences, and Tosin Ogunmayowa, PhD student in the Biomedical and Veterinary Sciences PhD program, presented their poster, "Application of multilevel modeling in sports and recreational injuries studies,” at the VCOM Via Research Day. Their presentation reviewed the way researchers have used multilevel modeling to look at sports and recreation-related injury.

Department of Biomedical Sciences and Pathobiology Ph.D. student Leila Abdelhamid received the Nutrients Travel Award in Nutritional Immunology for 2021. Abdelhamid's research in the Luo Lab explores the complex cellular and molecular pathways of how vitamin A modulates the inflammation-associated with systemic autoimmunity.

A new, three-year NIH R21 grant has been awarded to principal investigator Joanne Tuohy and co-investigators Eli Vlaisavljevich, Irving Coy Allen, Sheryl Coutermarsh-Ott, Nikolaos Dervisis, Greg Daniel, and Shawna Klahn to develop histotripsy as a novel method for the ablation of osteosarcoma, providing a low morbidity limb salvage option and an immunotherapeutic to target metastatic disease.
