Principal investigator Julie Green, director of the Veterinary Terminology Services Laboratory and research assistant professor of veterinary medical informatics in the Department of Biomedical Sciences and Pathobiology, has been awarded a yearlong continuation of a grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA) Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) to enable research support for standardizing terminology that allows USDA Veterinary Services to interpret and analyze data across various veterinary service programs.

SIGNFICANCE
This funding is a continuation of work supporting the data needs of the USDA Veterinary Services (VS), including support of the National Animal Health Laboratory Network's Laboratory Messaging System. Standardized terminology allows USDA VS to aggregate and analyze data across VS programs. This work also supports the maintenance of the Veterinary Extension of SNOMED CT, the only veterinary extension in the world that integrates with SNOMED CT to provide terminology that connects human and veterinary health data.
