University of Maryland
College Park, MD 20742-3711
The primary missions of our College Park, Maryland, campus are research and graduate education through the University of Maryland (UMD) Graduate School.
Research
The UMD Department of Veterinary Medicine ranks in the top tier of animal and human health research centers in the nation, consistently producing new discoveries in the areas of virology, immunology, epidemiology, and bacteriology. The department's location in the Baltimore-Washington corridor allows for active collaboration with several prominent research centers, including the National Institutes of Health, U.S. Department of Agriculture, and U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
Education
VA-MD Vet Med is the in-state veterinary college for Virginia and Maryland residents. Though instructional activities for the college's Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) Program take place on the Blacksburg campus, DVM admissions counseling for Maryland and area residents is provided on our Maryland campus through the Center for Public and Corporate Veterinary Medicine, which also provides career counseling and mentorship for students and veterinarians interested in career transition.
UMD's Comparative Biomedical Sciences Graduate Program (formerly the Veterinary Medical Sciences Graduate Program) offers M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in veterinary medicine, biomedical, and comparative medical sciences. The program is housed in the UMD College of Agriculture and Natural Resources and the UMD Graduate School.
