Hello, my name is Kylie Galla, I am originally from Michigan. I grew up in the rural Upper Peninsula with all the farm animals from cows, pigs and chickens to cats, dogs and of course horses. I grew up in 4-H showing western pleasures and speed events (barrels, poles, etc.). My riding took a back seat when I went to college at Grand Valley State University in Grand Rapids, Michigan where I was fortunate enough to participate in collegiate athletics as well working part-time at a small animal emergency hospital.
Upon undergraduate graduation I was accepted into veterinary school at Michigan State University (Go Green!). During my time in veterinary school, I had some amazing experiences including an external rotation in Mexico providing welfare servicesto several working equids in rural areas, a summer fellowship at a tertiary equine referral hospital in Colorado, and severalother externships in places like Alaska, Las Vegas and Texas.
After graduating veterinary school in May of 2023, I moved to upstate New York and completed a 1-year rotating internship at a private practice hospital called Rhinebeck Equine. During my time in New York, we served a large breeding, sport horse, and dressage population but of course still cared for the hobby horses, donkey rescues and everything in between. After a long and rewarding year, my next stop was Kansas State University for an academic rotating internship. While in Kansas, we served a large Quarter Horse, 4-H, back-yard hobby horse population very different from New York.
In my free time, if I get it, I enjoy being active whether that’s inside at the gym weight lifting or outside hiking, riding, boating etc. I also love spending time with friends and family whenever possible by a bonfire, at the beach, or just lounging around.I have two orange kitties named Simba and Nala; they are of course my first and second born children and are spoiled rotten. My goal after this fellowship is Large Animal Surgery Residency and after that I’d love to end up out west one day with my own horses again able to enjoy them rather than work on them exclusively.
