Dr. Lahmers' research is currently focused on the extension of molecular techniques to advance veterinary diagnostics. He is head of molecular diagnostics at Virginia Tech Animal Laboratory Services. Particular areas of research emphasis include:

  • Next-generation sequencing for disease detection and characterization
  • Epidemiology of tick-borne diseases in domestic animals
  • Collaborative research with an interest in food and waterborne disease and cardiovascular disease
