On Friday, June 2, the Marion duPont Scott Equine Medical Center (EMC) held a Staff Appreciation Lunch. This annual event honors the accomplishments of residents, fellows and interns, and individual members of staff who have done exemplary work during the past year.

Kelsey Gallagher, patient care veterinary assistant was awarded The Paige Messick Memorial Award, presented by Michael Erskine and hospital manager Laura Dawson.

Congratulations to Megan Lowman, DVM who received an equine surgery residency completion certificate.

Bruno Malacarne, DVM was presented with an equine surgery fellowship completion certificate and will remain at the EMC for an additional three years as a surgery resident.

Luisa Nitzschke, DVM although absent on the day was honored for completing her rotating medicine and surgery internship and will be staying at the EMC for an additional three years as a medicine resident.

Samantha Lowrey, DVM was presented with an equine rotating medicine and surgery internship completion certificate and will be heading out to Oregon State University (OSU), Corvallis, Oregon to start a three-year residency at their veterinary teaching hospital.  

Four yearly awards are presented to honor and acknowledge our hardworking and dedicated staff.

Selected by the center’s director Michael Erskine, DVM, the Directors Award recipient this year was lead clinical veterinary technician Tina McAlinn.  

The center’s faculty team selected Alex Ambelang, clinical veterinary assistant to receive the Faculty Award.

Nominated by the center’s staff, the Above & Beyond Award went to Ashley Anderson, a patient care veterinary assistant. 

These three awards recognize individuals who support their colleagues and go to extreme lengths for patients and clients.

Patient care veterinary assistant Kelsey Gallagher received The Paige Messick Memorial Award. This award honors the memory of a very special person who was a great supervisor and mentor to her staff and who was fondly dubbed “The Foal Queen” due to her patience and love for our smallest and most vulnerable patients. 

After lunch and award presentations were completed, EMC staff participated in the annual staff games which highlighted how competitive a group they are!
