How VA-MD equipped me for the 'real world'...

I didn't know it when I graduated, but I had all the knowledge and groundwork I needed to be a good doctor and was ready from day one to help my patients.

The best part of being a VMCVM alum...

Nothing beats being a Hokie. I cannot attend a meeting or event without running into other alums and feeling an instant connection, and it is like being back in the Commons between classes.

The best advice I've gotten...

"You can't know everything. That is why there are reference guides."

How would you capture the essence of your work?

The one profession where we feel your joy and loss right along with you. Where we lay awake at night worrying about the patient we discharged earlier in the day or what else we could have done.

My hidden talent...

I can fall asleep anywhere.

A person who has inspired me...

My grandfather. He would encourage me to achieve anything I put my mind to and encouraged me in everything I did.

What did you learn at the college that you never thought you would benefit from?

The pathway of the cranial nerves.

The biggest misconception about my job or industry...

No, we do not play with puppies and kittens all day. We spend 80% of our time educating clients.

Being a VMCVM alumnus means...

Community and camaraderie with a common goal of improving animal wellness.

Words of encouragement to a current veterinary college student...

You will graduate with all the knowledge you need to succeed and be a fantastic veterinarian.

Fondest college memory or tradition...

Spending the evening in MDL with classmates before an anatomy exam, studying and goofing off, and in comes Dr. Holiday with his mastiff to "check on us."

A cause I'm most passionate about...

Fetch-A-Cure is a non-profit organization that raises awareness of cancer in companion animals and helps cover treatment expenses for those in need.

Top of my bucket list...

Swim with whale sharks.

My favorite quote...

"It's a good day to have a great day."
