Amanda Gabriel

DVM Class of 2025, Small Animal

Hometown: Rehoboth Beach, Deleware

My undergraduate was in…

Biology (B.S.) with Spanish and Creative Writing minors

Best part of being a VMCVM student…

Having access to all the clubs, events, and opportunities the school provides while also working towards my professional goals.

The moment I knew I wanted to be a veterinarian/public health professional was…

When I started to faint from seeing human blood and realized being a human doctor was not for me.

My hidden talent...

I love to paint with acrylics.

A person who has inspired me...

While participating in my summer clinicals, I rotated through the oncology service in Roanoke and Blacksburg. This was one of my favorite rotations because of the state of the art facilities and equipment, as well as the innovative and brilliant clinicians and staff. The technicians were very well organized which provided the utmost patient care. Moreover, clinicians like Dr. Joanne Tuohy exude patience, empathy, and keen intellect. Her masterly surgical skills are something I strive to achieve in addition to her well-roundedness in all areas of veterinary medicine.

Biggest misconception about being a veterinarian/public health student…

That you have to know everything to be a great doctor. It is impossible to know everything, and learning how to use your resources is just as important.

What excites me the most about the future of my industry....

Seeing mental health and work life balance become more of a focus than in previous years.

Favorite way to end the day...

With my two pitties on a hike.
