Nina Miller Prill DVM '91

Owner/Veterinarian, Potomac Veterinary Rehab

How VMCVM equipped me for the 'real world'...

VMCVM taught me a systematic approach to diagnosing and treating my patients.

Best part of being a VMCVM alum...

I have been welcomed back to the college on multiple occasions. The highlight was being asked to teach a class for the past three years to the 3rd year students on the Business of Veterinary Rehabilitation. Faculty and staff are very responsive to questions, I have reached out for advice on many occasions.

Best advice I've gotten....

Never be afraid to try...

How would you capture the essence of your work in a newspaper headline...

Quality of life Practice for the Pets, Parents and Me (the practitioner.)

A person who has inspired me...

Dr. Robert Martin

Advice to me before I left his surgical rotation in my senior year: "I have no doubt you will be a great practitioner. Just remember, family comes first."

I have carried that through my 32 years of practice, working hard but continuing to maintain a good quality of life.

Words of encouragement to a current veterinary college student...

Believe in your dreams. Follow your passion. Be indispensable in your first jobs and learn as much as you can. Don't be afraid to try new procedures. Do your best.

I was able to raise three kids and still continue with my veterinary career eventually leading to me opening and succeeding with my own practice in my 50s.

A cause I'm most passionate about... The most formative experience I've had...

True therapy dogs for the blind, impaired children and wounded warriors

Top of my bucket list...

Showing my horse competitively in the Adult Amateur Division showing at Upperville.

My favorite quote...

Someday we'll look back on this and it will all seem funny... Bruce

Anything else to add?

If someone had told be I would get certified in Rehabilitation Medicine in my 50s, work for a big orthopedic group, open my own practice, and lecture at the Vet school and conferences, I would have never believed them. My practice, which as sustained itself and continues to grow after 5 years has brought me so much joy and many new friends.
